Why can't I see the BBQ or Statue in my backyard?

Sorry for any confusion! Are you are playing in landscape mode? On some devices, the item is hidden from view in landscape mode. To switch back to portrait, click the pause button in your game. Click the icon of a phone displayed in portrait and landscape, click on that to switch to portrait. Once in portrait mode, you should see it in the backyard. You can click on it to get energy in your game.
